"Notes on an execution" by Danya Kukafka
This is a menacing, sinister and tragic book from the outset. I felt terrified, pity and at times compassion for Ansel. It also led me to question the purpose of the death penalty and whether it can ever be justified.
I liked the use of first and third person for different characters, the storyline is clever with overlapping themes between the characters. I did let out a really big sigh when I finished it. There's a lot of tension and this wasn't a book that I would normally read so thank you to bookclub once again for pushing my reading.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
